My Fiancée Walked Down the Aisle in an Oversized Old Suit – When I Saw the Writing on the Label, simo I Broke Down in Tears

My fiancée kept her wedding dress secret for months, so I expected the usual dramatic reveal when the ceremony started. Instead, she walked down the aisle in a black men’s suit that looked decades old, and I had no idea why until I saw the writing inside the cuff.

I’m 34, and Claire is 31. We’d been together for five years before I proposed.

I had been looking forward to our wedding more than I probably admitted.

I wasn’t someone who needed a luxury venue or a 12-tier cake.

I just wanted the normal things.

I wanted to stand at the front and watch Claire walk toward me in a wedding dress.

I wanted to take too many pictures, eat dinner with everyone we loved, dance badly, and finally introduce her as my wife.

Claire knew that.

She wasn’t obsessed with wedding planning, but she seemed completely on board.

We picked a small outdoor venue at an old garden estate about 40 minutes outside the city.

She chose white roses and eucalyptus for the flowers.

We argued for three days over chocolate cake versus lemon.

She won.

She spent weeks debating whether she wanted her hair up or down.

The only thing she was strangely private about was her dress.

I never saw it.

She told me she wanted the first time I saw her in it to be when she walked down the aisle.

That seemed normal.

Her mother went shopping with her.

One of her bridesmaids went to a fitting.

Garment bags appeared and disappeared around our apartment, and I was repeatedly warned not to look inside them.

So I had absolutely no reason to think anything unusual was going on.

The morning of the wedding, I woke up before my alarm.

My brother, Aaron, was my best man.

He and two of my closest friends got ready with me in one of the rooms at the venue.

About half an hour before the ceremony, one of Claire’s bridesmaids, Jenna, hurried past us.

She looked stressed.

I leaned out into the hallway.

“Is everything okay?”

Jenna stopped.

For one strange second, she looked like she was trying to decide what she was allowed to say.

Then she nodded. “Yeah. Claire’s fine.”

That wasn’t exactly what I had asked.

But she walked away before I said so.

Aaron appeared beside me. “What was that?”

“I have no idea.”

Still, I wasn’t worried. Not really.
